3300 年前の漢字の祖先「甲骨文字」は「企」を123に表し、
❶❷は人の側面、
❸❹は足跡の形と解釈される。人のサイズに比べ足跡が大きく突出しているのは、
行動性を示すものと言われる。最古の字典『説文解字』
(AD100)には、
「企」は「踵
を挙げる」とあり、つま立ちして遠くを望む意味があるという。ひいては、先を見
通し「企てる」「計画して行動する」などとなったのであろう。

The Character “Planning”
Ideogram
The early form of the character “planning” was scribed 3300 years ago in China on
bones and tortoise shells as in 12 and 3, ❶and❷ depicting the side of a person
and ❸❹,his footprint. The emphasized bigness of the footprint as against the person
himself is said to show its mobility. According to the oldest letter/character dictionary
『説文解字』
(100AD),the character 企 means to raise oneʼ s heels or to look afar
on tiptoes, and then naturally it came to mean “ to plan ahead” or “to go ahead as
planned.”
